Spoiled for Choice!

When it comes to finding the perfect location for your family photoshoot in Cape Town, we really are spoilt for choice. Whether you're drawn to lush forests, stunning beaches, or even the quirky charm of city life, Cape Town has a little something for everyone. So, if you're in the mood to document your family's story with a backdrop as incredible as the people in the pictures, here are a few of my favorite spots—and maybe some new ideas to inspire you!

1. Newlands Forest – For the Tree-Lovers

If you're into towering trees and that earthy, green goodness, Newlands Forest is the place to be. There's something about the quiet, shaded trails that makes everyone relax a little more, and trust me, relaxed families make the best photos. Plus, the kids can pretend they’re mini explorers, which keeps them entertained while we capture the magic.

2. Constantia Greenbelt – A Hidden Gem

This is one of my go-to spots for families who want the peaceful feel of nature but with a bit more openness than a dense forest. It’s perfect for morning or afternoon light, and the greenbelt’s wide, tree-lined paths make for lovely candid shots. It’s also dog-friendly, so if you have a furry family member (like my Lily!), you can bring them along for the fun.

3. Majik Forest, Durbanville – Northern Suburbs Beauty

For those in the northern suburbs, Majik Forest in Durbanville is always a winner. You get a mix of trees, open spaces, and a few little paths that make it feel like you’re far from city life. There’s something magical about capturing kids running through the forest here—it's called Majik for a reason, right?

4. Kirstenbosch Gardens – Floral Heaven

If you’re a fan of beautifully manicured gardens with a stunning mountain backdrop, Kirstenbosch Gardens is a must! It’s perfect for family photos with a mix of greenery, vibrant flowers, and of course, the grand Table Mountain towering in the background. The various trails, lawns, and secret nooks provide endless options for gorgeous, natural shots—ideal for families who want a little bit of everything in one place.

5. Cape Town Beaches – Iconic Views, Always

Of course, we can’t talk Cape Town without mentioning the beaches. If you're dreaming of family photos with the iconic Table Mountain in the background, the options are endless. Blouberg Beach is my personal favorite for its wide-open spaces and epic mountain views. There’s also something special about the light just before sunset, casting that golden glow over everything (plus, the sand tends to hide the fact that your toddler insisted on wearing their shoes on the wrong feet).

6. The City – A Little Bit of Vibe

Maybe you're not all about nature—no judgment here! Cape Town’s city center is packed with vibrant spots, from colorful street art to quirky coffee shops. We could explore areas like the Company’s Garden or Bo-Kaap for something with a bit more energy. It’s perfect for families who want something different, maybe even a little playful or adventurous. Your photos will definitely stand out from the crowd.

7. At Home – Because Home is Where the Heart Is

If venturing out with the kids feels a little overwhelming (because let’s be real, sometimes it is), we can always do a relaxed session at home. Lifestyle family sessions can be just as magical, especially in a space that’s comfortable and familiar. Kids are more likely to open up and be themselves, and let’s face it, the chaos of home life is often where the best memories are made anyway. Plus, there’s always the bonus of easy snack access when needed!

What’s Your Spot?

I’m always open to new ideas too! Cape Town is full of hidden gems, and you might have a location close to your heart that I haven’t discovered yet. Whether it’s your favorite family hangout or that park where you got engaged, let's create something special together in a place that feels meaningful to you.

So, whether we’re chasing sunsets on the beach, wandering through the woods, or sipping coffee in the city, there’s no shortage of amazing places to document your family’s story. And hey, the best part is, you get to relive these moments every time you look at the photos—long after the kids have outgrown their shoes.
